Every golfer is a bit different and because each complaint is unique, each visit is unique. Here is a basic framework for what to expect at my office:
Basic Initial Consultation
A bit of Paperwork – That always happens ehh…?
Knee-to-Knee Consultation – you and I will sit down and discuss your goals as far as performance enhancement or pain relief are concerned. Again, every golfer is different!
Complaint Examination – if pain is an issue, the first thing we will examine is the site of your pain. This examination may include orthopedic, neurologic, or radiographic testing (x-rays). We’ll figure out which tissues are causing you pain and provide you with options to get that problem healed up.
Functional Screen – I’ll ask you to perform 12 specific movements and we’ll investigate any physical limitations that may be hampering your golf performance.
After the functional screen, I’ll send you home and spend some time looking over your case. I’ll have you back the next day for a second visit – the Report of Findings.
During your Report of Findings, we’ll discuss all the findings of your examinations and how they affect not only your golf game but your everyday life. I’ll lay out all the options of various treatments for any pain or limitation that we may have encountered. You’ll also receive an exercise program tailored specifically to your functional limitations. I’ll answer any questions you may have and we’ll decide the best way to proceed.
Advanced Initial Consultation
Includes everything in the basic initial consultation as well as video golf swing analysis**. I will examine your posture, body angles, and body movement throughout your swing. The results will be correlated with your functional examination findings and exercise prescription. This is as comprehensive an analysis that can be done without using 3D motion capture.
** – This is not the same golf swing analysis your teaching professional will provide. I will not provide swing tips or advice. I will provide advice about body position and how that relates to power, accuracy, and biomechanics. I am not a golf instructor – that is better left to the professionals!
